Rokudan no shirabe is a traditional koto piece
composed by Yatsuhashi, Kengyoo (1614-1685). The composition consists
of 6 sections, each with 52 beats. It was originally written for the
koto, but has become popular to play also on the shamisen. Rokudan is
often played as a duet with a second koto part (kaede) added in the 1920's.
